Who We Are
A project that cares to make a difference and improve the wellbeing of people with learning disabilities. We are a project within Enactus Sheffield Ltd, a student-led voluntary organisation which aims to connect with the local community by promoting innovative solutions.
The project is run by a group of students from different courses, from Engineering to International Relations; all coming together to make a difference.
Why We Are
There are 1.5 million people living with learning disabilities in the UK. People with learning disabilities may face difficulties with communication which can leave them with a small social circle. Loneliness is linked to a number of health risks such as depression, higher blood pressure, and mortality risk, so one of our projects main aims is to reduce this. Some leisure activities are also inaccessible to them due to inaccessible venues and facilities, transport difficulties, lack of support, and negative attitude towards disabilities. For instance, 32% of respondents in the 2017 British attitudes survey thought that disabled people were not as productive as non-disabled people. Widespread misconceptions like these lead to disparity in employment rates and social isolation.
Our Mission
Support local charities for people with learning disabilities.

Encourage creativity and recreation for people who have been excluded from the learning system.

Remove the stigma around people with learning disabilities by encouraging their art.

Financial sustenance of our beneficiaries (currently the Sheffield Voices Sunshine Art Group).
